We have crisscrossed our beautiful state during 52 Weeks of Giving. Each week, the Legacy Fund provides a grant to a community in Minnesota that is committed to improving the health and wellness of our state’s children. These grants, chosen in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Health’s SHIP program, are focused on improving access and creating healthy behaviors for a lifetime, whether it's access to physical activity or nutritious food.
For the first time ever, children born today have a shorter life expectancy than their parents. We need to get kids moving again. Eating better. Building lifelong habits. That’s why the Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee is turning this one-day event into a lasting legacy. To build a healthier, more active, life-changing future for all of Minnesota’s children, focused on three key areas – fun, fuel, and fundamentals.
The Legacy Fund is a 501C3, community advised fund of the Minnesota Community Foundation. Working in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Health’s Statewide Health Improvement Program (SHIP) and based on the recommendations of SHIP’s community heath boards, the Legacy Fund is providing 52 grants to 52 community projects across our state over the 52 weeks leading up to Super Bowl LII.
The work of the Legacy Fund is made possible by Minnesota’s philanthropic community, including foundations, corporations, and individual donors who share our passion for improving the health and wellness of kids from every corner of our state. If your organization is interested in giving to be part of the Legacy Fund, please contact Dana Nelson.

The Legacy Fund asked young people age 8-14 to participate in the Super Snack Challenge, a contest where kids submitted a recipe with their favorite healthy gameday snack. Hundreds of young people from across the state delivered, submitting great game-day recipes! 52 winners were selected and will have the chance to attend the Kids Tailgate Party during the 10-day Super Bowl festival.
Ten “All-Pro Chefs” will be honored at the Super Kids Tailgate Party and the winning healthy game day recipe will be chosen, receiving a $25,000 to donate to the charity of his/her choice! Super Snack Challenge is just one more way the Legacy Fund is leveraging Super Bowl LII to create a healthy legacy for Minnesota kids. Special thanks to the Newman’s Own Foundation for their support of this initiative.
